There are no special visa requirements for most visitors to Peru. Expect to see scarlet macaws swooping overhead, monkeys leaping from branch to branch, fishermen paddling by on long wooden canoes and giant lily pads blooming on the surface of the water.

You'll find a single-room school, a small church and a manioc farm, all of which can be visited, and the waterfront is lined with thatched-roof stalls selling handmade local crafts. Boca provides a quiet and low-key day ashore, but it's a delightful antidote to "go faster" modern city life. Most cruise lines also offer Santarem city tours, which will take in the 1868-built Santarem Museum, home to pre-Colombian artifacts and indigenous ceramics, and the Old Town, which has a quaint Immaculate Conception church and a pretty Fisherman Square. Together, Natural Habitat Adventures and World Wildlife Fund have teamed up to arrange nearly a hundred nature travel experiences around the planet, while helping to protect the magnificent places we visit and their wild inhabitants.

Now that made me very happy because my husband and I thought the trip was “perfect” in every way. All itineraries are subject to change due to seasonal weather conditions (and resultant variations in river and tributary water levels) affecting accessibility to locations. Thus navigation routes, times and excursions may need to be modified at the cruise captain’s or your guide's discretion. When you are ready for a break from the action, curl up with a book in the indoor reading lounge, or sip a cocktail at the indoor bar.
Amazon River Cruise: Peru
Setting up this trip was simple and easy and she was helpful with any and all my questions. On top of it when our flight was cancelled from Iquitos to Lima. That place is crazy and we barely found our guide the first time and completely missed them the second. The family travel experts at AdventureSmith have compiled these top 8 tips for travel in the rainforest with kids.

This experience exceeded our already high expectations. Our newest vessel, the Delfin III, offers guests an immersive rainforest experience while simultaneously treating them to the highest levels of luxury. The islands are largely uninhabited and, in the wet season, also largely submerged, with only 180 of them visible at this time. Even when Boi Bumba is not on, local dancers meet, greet and mount folklorique shows for visiting cruise passengers, and Parintins is a good place to pick up souvenirs, as ships dock in the heart of the city's Downtown area. It's just a short walk away from a flea market selling handmade masks, beads, paintings and woodwork produced by local people from the indigenous Satere-Mawe and Wai-Wai tribes. The Brazilian part of the river is the widest and most developed, along with the most boat traffic.
Exploration Of The Amazon Rainforest: A Brief History
You'll have a wider array of cruise options to choose from, including large luxury ships and more intimate expedition vessels. Weather can determine how much you can see or do on and off the boat; access to wildlife, ports and shore excursions will depend on water levels. Aqua Nera
We organized dinner parties and changed who we ate with and the crew in the dining were very accommodating letting us set up a table for 10 one night. The spa ladies were experts at massage and we love that. The bartender also made me a special drink that I like, every night. The crew got to know us and we felt that we were taken care of, and we love that. Our room was immaculate with fresh towels and I love that.
Astonishing Facts About The Amazon River
Shelves are my personal favorite, so I can easily see what I want to wear. There was ample hanging space in the closet. The bed was very comfortable, lighting was sufficient, corner chair a must, we used it all the time.
About Amazon River Cruises
And the bathroom was wonderful, nice big shower, plenty of pressure……my only constructive criticism would be the make up mirror should be at a 5 foot height so it would be much easier to use, rather than bending over every evening to put on some make up. Otherwise all in the suite was perfection. It has now been just as painstakingly restored to its former glory. However you choose to cruise along this magical river, make doing so a priority, as it's one of the world's greatest trips. The only boat that is currently sailing down the Bolivian Mamoré River is the Reina de Enin, an air-conditioned, 38-passenger catamaran with 12 cabins and two outdoor dining areas. Americans visiting Bolivia are required to obtain tourist visas before entering the country; there are no special visa requirements for Canadians and Australians.
While you're in Ecuador, you might want to combine your cruise with a visit to the historical city of Quito or a trip through the Galapagos Islands. The chef was exceptional at providing food that reflected the local cultures, yet catering to American (or Australian in some cases) tastes. Every meal was fun and something of an adventure. I learned a lot and I think the others did, too. Wish we had stayed on it for a full week instead of the short four days. The drivers/guides appeared as promised with absolutely no concerns on our part.

AdventureSmith Explorations recommends 5 small ship cruises and 2 lodge-based adventures for amateur ornithologists. Breathtaking sceneries, luxuriant forests, natural life at its finest, and the endless expanses of the river come together with our first-rate service to create a magical environment, an experience never to forget. All of the above would be just okay if the crew wasn’t pleasant. Everyone on board, Cambodians and Vietnamese were so friendly I just can’t say enough about your crew and the manager of the ship. The manager, Julie, took care of all our needs and we think made the ship run like a clock. The guides were full of knowledge and wanted to teach us about their country, we love that.
Four auxiliary aluminum launch boats equipped with four-stroke low emission engines; constant radio communication with the main vessel. Each boat has a capacity of 12 passengers. Passengers are accommodated in 16 river-facing Design suites across two decks. 8 Design Suites measuring 23.2 square meters / 250 square feet each deck; 4 of the cabins can be converted into 2 interconnecting suites measuring 46.4 square meters / 500 square feet. Tours usually include a demonstration of local fishing methods using primitive nets, lines and harpoons, and you'll get some great views -- and photos -- of the wooden-stilt houses that line Santarem's riverfront.
I primarily stayed with Victor's group as he was a bit more into the birds and I loved seeing so many and he would identify them and was so excited and enthusiastic with each new siting. The guides most enjoyable and got us through the airport painlessly. About the only thing I would change would be for the naturalists to give us the list of possible sightings of birds and animals at the first of the trip and not on the last day. Through many interactions and last minute changes on my part, our needs were met without question. Thank you for creating this amazing trip which will give us a lifetime of memories in a quite unique way. The Inkaterra surprised our group with its attention to detail.
